Pay $100 to skip the lunch line? Florida school fundraiser upsets parents

Parents often have to sign a lot of forms at the beginning of school year, but one of the forms caught some parents off guard.

Students attending Lawton Chiles Middle Academy in Lakeland, Fla. were sent home with an orientation package that included a form from the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) telling parents that students can have a “front of the lunch line pass” if they donate US$100.

Battery explodes in woman’s purse interrupting Nevada city council meeting

Sparks literally flew during a recent city council meeting in Boulder City, Nev. when a woman’s purse suddenly burst into flames on Tuesday.

“We hear[d] this awful noise,” Roger Hall, the director of Boulder City Parks and Recreation told NBC news affiliate KSNV. “It sounded like a bookshelf or picture falling off the wall.”

The purse was so hot she tossed it off her lap and tried to take it outside of the council chambers.

This border-straddling U.S. home has a door that leads right to Canada

There’s a unique home that’s on the market and it straddles two countries.

Brian DuMoulin, who owns the historic home built in 1782 has decided to sell it.

The property is located in both the U.S. and Canada – specifically, between Beebe Plain, Vt., and Stanstead, Que.

New Jersey dad goes dumpster-diving to find son’s lost cellphone

One New Jersey dad went as far as dumpster-diving to help his 13-year-old son find his lost cellphone.

Ethan Roncace lost his phone Monday after having thrown it away at his high school in Haddon Township, according to NBC news affiliate WCAU.

“How far do you go to find your son’s iPhone? Yes, dumpster-diving. Oh, I mean extreme dumpster-diving at the Covanta Incinerator Plant in Camden, N.J. This was real-life Toy Story 3 experience.” Ethan’s mom, Deborah Roncace wrote in a Facebook post.

10-year-old ring bearer to make Kentucky couple’s wedding extra special

A long-time Kentucky couple are going to be tying the knot with the assistance of a very special ring bearer.

University of Kentucky basketball player Derek Willis put on the full court press before the Feb. 28 game when he proposed to his long-time girlfriend Keely Potts. She said ‘Yes’ to Willis, but for this couple the day wouldn’t be complete without 10-year-old Zack Pickard.

‘A whole new world opened up’: Iowa boy sees colour for first time thanks to special glasses

It was an emotional moment for an Iowa fourth-grader when he opened his eyes to see a whole new world of colour, and it was all thanks to a pair of special glasses.

Cayson Irlbeck has been colour blind since birth and was unable to decipher between blues and purples as well as red and greens until now.

The Irlbeck family videotaped the moment Cayson put on the glasses, and it was tears of joy as he hugged his dad when he was asked if the glasses worked.
